Customer reviews

We want the reviews on this site to be a true picture of what it is like to own a Rolly mat — including the parts we would rather people did not say. This is how we handle them.

Who can leave a review. Reviews are invited from people who have bought a Rolly mat from us. We send one review request by email a few weeks after delivery, so there has been time to actually use the mat. The same request goes to every customer, whatever we think they are likely to say. We do not choose who gets asked based on how happy they seem.

We do not write reviews, and we do not ask other people to. Nobody at Play on Rolly Ltd writes reviews of our own products, and we do not ask friends, family or anyone else to post a review of a mat they did not buy and use. We have never bought reviews and we will not.

We do not pay for reviews or give anything in return for one. There is no discount, gift, entry, credit or free product attached to leaving a review. If we ever change that, every review collected that way will be labelled on the page as an incentivised review, and the offer will be for an honest review — never for a positive one.

Gifted mats and paid partnerships. We do sometimes gift mats to creators, and we run partnership arrangements where people are paid. Anything they post is marked #ad, and that is a condition of working with us. If someone in a paid or gifted relationship with us also leaves a review on this site, we label it so you can see the connection.

Negative reviews stay up. We do not delete, hide, edit or push down a review because it is critical, low-starred or inconvenient. We would rather reply to it. A review is only ever removed if it is unlawful, abusive or discriminatory, contains someone's personal information, is spam or advertising, is not about a Rolly product or order, or we have good reason to believe it is not genuine. We never edit the words of a review; where we reply, our reply is shown separately and marked as coming from us.

Reviews are checked before they appear. Every review is moderated before publication, against the grounds above only. Moderation is not a sentiment filter. If a review does not appear, it is for one of the listed reasons.

How we spot fake reviews. We check that a review matches a real order, and we look for the usual signs of a fake — reviews that arrive in bursts, duplicated or templated wording, accounts with no order history, mismatched details, and content that reads as promotional. Anything that fails those checks is not published, or is taken down if it is already live, and we keep a record of what we removed and why. We review this process at least once a year, and whenever we change how reviews are collected.

How reviews are displayed. All published reviews are shown, most recent first by default. The star rating shown on a product is the straight average of every published review for that product. We do not weight, curate or cherry-pick which reviews appear.
